I had the pleasure of ageing Bryce Roberts – an actor who is extremely patient and happy to let me transform him! 🙂
The ageing was done with make-up only. I applied various types of foundations and theatrical creams on his face, and a water based grey tint on his hair.
Beauty make-up is all about balancing the face, smoothing-out blemishes etc., and emphasising our best features – in some instances, trying to achieve the youthful glow we once had – a younger us. Ageing make-up is quite the opposite. As a make-up artist, I find it a really interesting process (and have to admit, a far more enjoyable one), as you need to emphasise everything that you normally try to diffuse with beauty make-up.
Even though I do make-up on a daily basis, it still amazes me how people are transformed by it – not only their appearance, but also their psyche. And in the case of ageing make-up, it’s interesting to see their reactions to seeing themselves older and given an early glimpse at their mortality.
I really enjoy helping an actor get into character and transforming them into another person.
As time goes by, I will be posting more of these transformations.
