France, Annecy, 1630.
‘This was the time when the Great Plague returned and burned through France on its path to Italy, felling pauper, peasant, prince and king. Those who but weeks before slept in their beds now lay in the sleep that is not sleep in great open pits beyond the town walls.’
In the Year of the Plague is a short film by AFTRS Graduating Diploma students. It was beautifully set, and the two young lead actors did a wonderful job of bringing to life Luke Marsden’s vision.
I am really impressed by the productions put on by AFTRS students. They work incredibly hard to bring their visions to life, and it is a pleasure to be part of the team that helps them realise their dreams.
It was quite an involved production, I had to re-create the bubonic plague on the lead actress, as well as 12 extras.
I was supported on set by Aimee Wright, as there were many extras to prepare in a short period of time.
As the set was so dark, and dry ice was used to create a haze, it was difficult to capture the ambience/scene with my iPad, but I hope the images below give you some insight into how this beautiful story was put together.
